Our systems

Metaname’s backend systems are written in Python, the same powerful dynamic programming language used by NASA, Google, Industrial Light & Magic and many other successful companies.

We proudly use open‐source software including Python, Django, Debian GNU/Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Celery and unbound.

IDN support

On 26 July 2010, the .nz registry launched support for .nz domains with macrons. This feature uses IDN, a technology already widely deployed at other registries.

Metaname fully supports IDN, and was the first .nz registrar verified by the Domain Name Commission as IDN Friendly. We are now one of three registrars offering .nz domain names with macrons.

IPv6 support

Metaname launched with full IPv6 support. Our website and API are accessible via IPv6, our hosted DNS supports AAAA records.

IPv6 glue for name servers is supported for .nz domain names.

DNSSEC support

DNSSEC is a crucial technology in securing the global DNS system. We are in the process of deploying DNSSEC support for our hosted DNS, to allow customers to use DLV until .nz is signed.

Our own infrastructure uses DNSSEC validating resolvers to improve the security of our DNS lookups.
